Last year we received the greatest
Easter Basket EVER.
Last year
Soren was released from the Special Care Nursery on Easter Sunday. Our hearts were full of appreciation and gratitude for the doctors and nurses and dear friends and family whose expertise and prayer helped our little one win his first battle in life and come home, healthy, to our family.
As a way of saying thank you, I've been knitting up a storm the past few weeks making a bunny hat for each baby who will be cared for in the nursery between now and Easter. It was a heartwarming experience, knowing that as I knitted, the babies who would receive them were most likely cozy and peaceful in the womb - not knowing the hardship they were about to face. Knitting newborn hats is a very healing experience.
This afternoon the kids and I packed the hats into a special Easter basket and hopped on over to the hospital to deliver them.
Of course, this is as far as the kids could go - but one of the nurses who helped care for
Soren was there and came out to chat.
Soren clapped and giggled and waved and reached for her as soon as he saw her. (Okay, so
admittedly our cheerful little guy does that for most people who make eye contact with him - but it made her feel good that he didn't hold a grudge.)
As we were leaving, Isaac said, "Mommy, we're like the Good Samaritan because we helped someone we don't even know. It makes my heart feel happy." I was touched by his comparison and was about to comment on his insight when he shouted..."HEY, THERE'S THE OREO DRAWER!" (So much for the deep spiritual moment.)
Happy Easter, Little Ones. Although we'll never know you, we hope that as you wear your new little bunny hat, you'll know that each stitch was knitted with love and a prayer of healing for you and your family.
