Today we needed to stop by Harmons on the way home to pick up a few things for dinner. As we pulled into the parking lot, Isaac spotted five firemen getting out of their firetruck and walking into the store. As you could guess, he was INCREDIBLY excited and kept shouting, "Firetwuck! Firetwuck!" over and over. As we entered the store and walked to the produce department, we saw a fireman picking out an orange. "Fireguy! Fireguy! Hi Fireguy!" shouted my exuberant little two-year old. He kept yelling it until the kindhearted firefighter turned around, gave him a high-five and chatted with him for a few moments about oranges. Isaac was thrilled.
Two minutes later, (near the string cheese), we ran into 3 more firemen. "Hi Fireguys! Hi Fireguys!" he shouted. They all paused in their shopping to give him more high-fives and the chief even pulled out his wallet to reveal two shiny gold Junior Firefighter badges for my kids to wear. Isaac was just about floating out of my arms at this point.
So you can imagine how excited he was a few minutes later when we bumped into them again and one of them finally asked, "So, are you guys almost ready to check out? How about we meet you out front?"

Sure enough, as we walked out the front doors of the grocery store, up pulled a shiny, red FIRE ENGINE!!! Isaac and Abby were priviledged with their very own personal tour of the rig. Isaac even got to drive. The firefighters were so nice, offering to climb up on the bumper to get this shot of IZ through the windshield, chatting with Abby when she was too shy to try it herself, taking photos of all of us for the scrapbook...

Seriously, these guys were awesome. Isaac chatted on and on about the "fireguys" all night long - and you better know he insisted on reading his firetruck book and sleeping in his firetruck jammies with his firetruck toy tucked under his arm at bedtime. Thank you, fireguys, for taking a few mintues out of your day to make a BIG difference to my little boy.
