Base Camp

Monday morning greeted us with an ENORMOUS amount of snow dumped in our yard. Ben was more excited about a snow day than the kids and ran out of the house without breakfast, eager to play in the white stuff. After shoveling several neighbor's walks, he came in, grabbed the kids and went to work creating "base camps" in both yards. Abby was his little side-kick and helped him scoop, pat, and shape the snow into big piles, and then carve out an opening, just her size.

Then they made it a bit bigger so Daddy could fit...sort of.
Isaac joined the crew in the backyard where Daddy came up with the great idea of burying the castle slide that hasn't been used in months. It has a little built-in fort with a door and everything, perfect for two snow-crazed toddlers eager to play.

Daddy kept telling Abby that these were "base camps" and that someday she'd be big enough to go on a camping trip in the mountains and really sleep in a snow cave.
Then he went out of town on a business trip and didn't have to listen to her crying at night, begging me to let her sleep outside in "Daddy's Base camp". Thanks, Daddy.
The good news is, it has been so INSANELY cold the past few days that our little forts have not even begun to melt. I have a feeling we're in for hours of fun with these babies.

A great memory I have of you and Ben is in snow suits. Ok, they were for boarding/skiing, but still, they WERE snowsuits. It must have rubbed off on the kids.
