Oh Hakeem, we miss you. It is difficult to imagine our family without your giggles, your smiles, your hugs, and your gentle ways of expressing love. Thank you for all you gave, and all you taught in the ten short years we shared.Below is a copy of the obituary.
Hakeem Quraishi was born June 24, 1997 in Skokie, Illinois to Irfan and Elaine Quraishi. In Arabic his name means “Wise.” Hakeem’s time with us here on earth brought us happiness and joy, and indeed has taught us wisdom.
Hakeem loved playing with this older brother Ibrahim and younger brother Yusuf, and together they had many adventures. Hakeem had relatives from many parts of the world, and enjoyed visiting them in Utah, England, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Dubai (UAE), and Pakistan. Hakeem loved animals. He had two pet parakeets, and had a special affection for horses. Within the last year Hakeem began learning how to ride horses, and was very pleased with his ability to ride.
Hakeem passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 26th, 2008. While it is difficult to say goodbye, we are comforted to know that he is now in the arms of his paternal grandparents, Manzoor and Naima Quraishi, and his maternal grandfather John Lowry, Sr.
Hakeem is survived by his parents Irfan and Elaine Quraishi, and his brothers Ibrahim and Yusuf Quraishi. Other family include Imran Quraishi (Azeema), Nauman Quraishi (Nabina), Lubna Hamid (Asif), Sazia Aziz (Mohsin), Crystal Lowry, John Lowry (Brenda), Dan Lowry (Ena), Colleen Lowry, Ben Lowry (Rachel), Mike Lowry (Brooke) and Allison Lowry. He is also survived by many cousins and relatives. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Manzoor and Naima Quraishi and John H. Lowry, Sr.
An Islamic prayer will be offered at the Islamic Center in West Valley City, and funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the L.D.S church, 625 S. Country Creek Drive (750 E.), Layton Utah at 2:00 pm. Internment will follow the funeral service at Wasatch Lawns Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
